The Wireless Power Consortium is pleased to announce that Liyu Yang of Google has been elected to the WPC Board of Directors. We thank our outgoing member, Vaclav Halbich, for his many contributions while serving on the Board.
Liyu Yang is a Senior Hardware Engineer and system tech lead at Google focused on Pixel phone wireless charging technology. He successfully led the design, certification, and launch of wireless charging in the Pixel 6 Pro phone and the Pixel Stand Gen 2 in 2021, and wireless charging in the Pixel 3 phone and the Pixel Stand Gen 1 in 2018. Liyu is currently leading the investigation and design of next-generation wireless charging platforms for future Pixel products.
Prior to joining Google in 2017, he worked as an electrical engineer, an IC design engineer, and an IC definition engineer across various companies, from start-ups to large, multinational corporations. Over the past 15+ years in the power electronics industry, Liyu has gained deep and extensive hands-on experience in wireless charger design, mobile phone power management design, power IC architecture and design, and power converter design, control, and modeling.
Liyu is the primary author of 7 U.S. patents and 15+ articles published by IEEE journals and top conference proceedings in the field of power electronics. Liyu earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University, an MSEE from Virginia Tech, and a BSEE from Zhejiang University.
